BOURNEMOUTH PIER ENTRY

Do I have to pay to get onto Bournemouth Pier?

During the peak season between April and October, the local BCP Council operates a pier toll for entrance to Bournemouth Pier.

2022 Pricing:

One carer with a disabled person Free
Adult day / season pass £1.40 per ticket
Family day / season pass (two adults and three children) £4.40 per ticket
Junior day / season pass £1.00 per ticket
Under 5’s Free

This is valid for the whole season so as a local there is a benefit if you keeping your ticket. There are exceptions for the Bournemouth Air Festival Dates.

From January to April and October to December, entry to Bournemouth Pier is free.

The Pier Toll only operates from April to October. So from January to April and October to December the Pier is free.

Does the Pier Toll pay for everything on the Pier?

No it does not.

The Pier Toll is operated by the BCP Council and therefore not associated with the attractions on Bournemouth Pier which are operated by Openwide International.

I've paid already this year, do I have to pay again?

If you keep your Pier Toll receipt you can get onto Bournemouth Pier as many times as you want within the same season (April to October the same year). This does not apply when the Bournemouth Air Festival is on.

If you don’t have your receipt then you may have to pay again.

How do I get onto Bournemouth Pier for Free?

If you pre-book a table at Key West Bar & Grill or pre-book a RockReef activity you can show your confirmation for free access to the pier toll.

Children under 16 with a RockReef ticket will be allowed to have one accompanying adult access to the pier for free. This is only for pre-booked tickets.

RockReef and Key West can not refund the pier toll cost for tickets bought on the door.

What's on Bournemouth Pier?

Indoor RockReef Climbing Centre – Open all year round, RockReef is an all-weather attraction based on adventure sports and includes 28 Clip ’n Climb fun, themed, indoor climbing walls providing varying degrees of exciting challenges suitable for all abilities and all ages from 4-94! Other activities include a Vertical Slide drop, a ‘Leap of Faith’ jumping challenge, a HighLine high ropes aerial obstacle course and the Pier Cave which is a 65-linear metre indoor fun cave experience. Outdoor PierZip – Open all year round, the world’s first pier to shore zipline boasting a 250-metre dual zip line. Launching from the zip tower, thrill-seekers can race out over the top of the waves to land on the beach for a unique and unforgettable experience! To book visit their website here.

 

Key West Bar & Grill Restaurant – Open all year round daily from 10am offering a wide variety of food including Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Drinks, Cocktails and much more. We have live music all year round including tribute nights! Visit their website here.

 

Key West Kiosk – Need a quick drink, snack or ice cream to go? Refresh by our kiosk surrounded by benches and stunning views over towards Boscombe Pier. This kiosk is usually open during the peak season. Located on the left side of the pier (before you enter Key West Bar & Grill).

 

Small Fun Fair Rides – Operated by the BCP council, located at the end of Bournemouth Pier (below the PierZip tower) is ideal for small toddlers and young kids including the famous helter skelter & carousel. Please note: This is only operating from April until October.

Is there anything suitable for young children?

Yes absolutely!

What are the opening times for attractions on Bournemouth Pier?

Are there funfair rides on Bournemouth Pier?

No not on Bournemouth Pier. There are a few small rides for young children on the end of Bournemouth Pier (located underneath the PierZip tower) however this is operated by the BCP council and is only active during April to October.

Is there free WIFI on Bournemouth Pier?

Yes there is free WiFi to use.

Is there disabled facilities on Bournemouth Pier?

Yes there is. Bournemouth Pier is flat and there is a ramp access with double doors to the main entrance of RockReef Activity Attraction and Key West Bar & Grill. There is a disabled toilet located on the East side of the pier.

Are Dogs allowed on Bournemouth Pier?

Yes, dogs are allowed on Bournemouth Pier however dogs must be kept on the lead on all times.

Dogs are also allowed in Key West Bar & Grill Restaurant as it’s dog friendly.

Dogs are not allowed inside RockReef at any time (except Assistance dogs).

Do you offer boat trips from the end of Bournemouth Pier?

Yes, there is a boat trip operated by Dorset Belle that departs from Bournemouth Pier every hour from 11am to 5pm during April to October.

See Bournemouth and the Dorset Coast from the sea on this enjoyable 40 minute boat trip aboard the Dorset Belle. Relax on deck or below with a drink and full commentary from the Captain. Suitable for all ages, trips depart hourly between 11am and the last sailing of the day at 5pm.

 Sadly, due to the structure of the boat and the step access onto the vessel and below deck, this boat is not currently suitable for individuals in wheelchairs.

  • 40 minute trip around The Chines, Sandbanks, Studland & Old Harry Rocks and back to Bournemouth Pier
  • Every hour from 11-5
  • Bar & Toilet on board
  • Dogs welcome
  • Free Pier entry included
  • Commentary given

Can I fish off Bournemouth Pier?

Yes, fishing is permitted on the east side of Bournemouth Pier either side of the Dorset Belle barriers. It is important that rods are reeled in when the boat is departing or docking at the landing stage. They must give way to the boat as the Dorset Belle has priority.

Fishing permits can be bought from Bounrnemouth Pier Toll kiosk.

What times can I fish off Bournemouth Pier?

It is recommended to fish early in the morning or late in the evening preferably on an incoming tide.

No, you can’t dive off Bournemouth Pier at any time. This is strictly prohibited at all times.

Can I wear heels on Bournemouth Pier?

Wearing high heels on Bournemouth is very dangerous due to the gaps in-between the wooden panels so we highly recommend you avoid this due to potential inquiry.

Do you take contactless payments?

Yes we take contactless payments on and around Bournemouth Pier Approach.

Where is the tourist information centre?
I've forgotten sunscreen, towels etc. Do you sell these nearby?

Yes we do! For anything you’ve left behind or want to purchase, please visit either the Beach Shop or News & Gifts located at the Pier Approach before the enter Bournemouth Pier.

Is there food and toilets nearby?

Yes we have several food shops including Coffee Reef, News & Gifts, Rock Shop, Ice Cream Kiosk & more located at the Pier Approach as well as toilets.

Can I book a parking space?

No you can’t book or reserve a parking space near the beach.

Can I reserve a spot on the beach nearby?

No, this is something we can’t do nor do BCP council.

Are there any amusements nearby?

Yes there are. Located at the entrance of Pier Approach is the Pier amusements operated by the BCP council. Here you will find a wide range of entertainment machines and amusements, and all the most up-to-date videos and prizes.

We have a wide range of family orientated games and prizes from the current film licences, appealing to gamers with our ground-breaking, up to date video games, with franchises such as The Walking Dead, Tomb Raider and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We also pride ourselves on our pinball area, with well kept tables from both the modern and classic games.

 

The amusements are open all year round from Monday to Sunday 10am to 10pm*

*Opening hours may vary due to levels of trade. Closed Christmas Day

How long does it take to get to Bournemouth Pier from the town centre?

To walk from the Bournemouth town centre, through Bournemouth Lower Gardens and through to the Pier Approach it takes approx 10 minutes.

Are there buses nearby?

Bournemouth’s local bus company More Buses can take you to Bournemouth Pier with bus stops nearby. Please visit their website here.

How far is it from Bournemouth Central train station?

From Bournemouth Central train station is takes approx 25 minutes to walk, or cycling is 8 minutes.

It’s approx 1.1 miles away.

Where are the nearest car parks to Bournemouth Pier?

There are a few parking spaces around but during busy peak times and/or sunny days, please check before you travel.

Do you have a 'Park and Ride' nearby?

BCP council’s nearest Park and Ride site in Kings Park (by the Stadium) is clearly signposted off the A338 Wessex Way.

It costs £5 for an all day ticket. Free buses leave every 15 minutes from 9am, and will drop you off by Boscombe Pier which is the closest you can to Bournemouth Pier.

From Boscombe to Bournemouth Pier is approx 1.5 miles or 28 minutes to walk.

Buses return from the same stop at Boscombe Pier every 15 minutes. The last bus is at 6.45pm.

The Park and Ride operates on the following dates:

  • Saturday 28 May to Sunday 5 June inclusive
  • all Saturdays and Sundays in June and July
  • daily from Saturday 23 July to Wednesday 31 August inclusive.

Please note that the Kings Park Beach Park and Ride will not operate when AFC Bournemouth are playing at home for a daytime or evening match.

How far is Bournemouth Pier from Bournemouth Airport?

Driving from Bournemouth Airport takes approx 17 minutes (with clear roads) and is 6.6 miles away.

Is there a coach drop-off point nearby?

Yes this is located around the back of Hot Rocks and Bournemouth International Centre which is very close to the Pier Approach.
